Available Fellowship Positions

The Dalhousie Department of Anesthesia, Pain Management and Perioperative Medicine is seeking exceptional fellowship candidates to join our growing and dynamic team. Our 12-month fellowships offer advanced clinical training, teaching and research, and are structured to meet fellow’s individual aspirations.

Successful candidates will practice, teach and research at the QEII Health Sciences Centre and/or the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. The QEII is the largest tertiary care hospital in Atlantic Canada while the IWK serves the health needs of women, children and youth across Canada’s Maritime provinces.

The fellowship programs ensure optimal patient care while offering plentiful opportunities for the fellow to develop skills in clinical care and judgment, teaching, and research.

Dalhousie, the IWK and the QEII are situated in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where the benefits of big-city convenience meet the charms of small-town living. Be part of a thriving Anesthesia team that cultivates excellence and will support you in your efforts to achieve the same.

Candidates with Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification, American Board of Anesthesiology certification or who are eligible for either certification may apply.

Airway Fellowship

QEII Health Sciences Centre & IWK Health Centre

Annually, we seek an exceptional individual to join the Department of Anesthesia as an airway fellow. Our fellowship offers the opportunity to learn all airway techniques, including surgical airway in pediatric, obstetric and adult populations, from diverse, experienced faculty, all of whom teach national and international airway courses and workshops. Cardiac Anesthesia Fellowship

QEII Health Sciences Centre

Annually, we seek a motivated and dedicated individual to join the Department of Anesthesia as a cardiac anesthesia fellow. Our fellowship program offers training in all aspects of cardiac surgical patient care, from pre-operative assessment and optimization, through to intra-operative management and immediate post-operative care. Our goal is to train outstanding clinical anesthesiologists to treat patients with a variety of complex cardiac problems, including valvular heart disease, critical coronary artery disease, severe ventricular dysfunction and aortic pathology. Chronic Pain Fellowship (position filled for 2014)

QEII Health Sciences Centre

Annually, we seek an outstanding individual to join the Department of Anesthesia as a chronic pain management fellow. At least six months of the year-long fellowship will take place in our multidisciplinary unit. CanMEDS core competencies will be provided in palliative care, psychiatry and addiction medicine, rehabilitation and musculoskeletal medicine, acute pain, pediatric pain, neurology and neurosurgery. Regional and Acute Pain Fellowship (position filled for 2014)

Annually, we seek a motivated and dedicated individual to join the Department of Anesthesia as a regional anesthesia & acute pain fellow. Our fellowship offers the opportunity to develop skills in peripheral and central neural blockade in the context of modern, integrated multimodal pain management, working and learning in a supportive and well-equipped environment. Women's and Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship (position filled for 2014)

IWK Health Centre

Annually, we seek an exceptional candidate to join the Department of Anesthesia as a women's & obstetric anesthesia fellow. Our fellowship offers advanced clinical training, teaching and research in a setting that employs a full range of state-of-the-art obstetric and anesthetic services. As a tertiary care hospital that delivers more than 5,000 babies per year, the IWK provides an interesting and challenging case mix that ensures exposure to all varieties of high-risk obstetric patients, as well as ample clinical exposure to normal pregnancies.
